“Offering fantastic opportunities for under 25's riders”

The emphasis will be to provide a comprehensive package of both practical and theoretical training, (including help with specialist aspects of Dressage competing such as sports psychology, understanding what Dressage judges look for, how to best prepare your horse on the day of the competition, how to be physically prepared as a rider etc.) as well as special days and demos with International Trainers and trips to International shows.

There will also be a limited number of scholarships available to enable particularly talented young riders to make the most of their dressage potential.

A long term ambition is to provide high class horses and ponies of international team standard to talented young riders.

Sarah's immediate aim is simply to produce an attractive & cost effective training programme for parents and riders throughout the South West, with a view to improving riders of all abilities and placing the most talented riders with National squads and teams - as she has done before.

Stage 1

Help riders to perform well at affiliated competitions through regular high quality training

Stage 2

Secure noteworthy results at Premiere League Shows

"The Selectors will also monitor the results from Premier Leagues, at which a Selector or a representative will make every effort to be present. Where spaces are available, riders who have attained suitable results and scores will be invited to compete abroad. Premier League shows promote Dressage in Britain. The International Teams Committee wish riders to give these competitions as much support as possible and believe that the top riders are under a moral obligation to play their part in this vital section of British Dressage."

You need to be capable of consistently scoring at least 66% in FEI (Fédération Equestre Internationale) team tests to be considered for a place on a team for the European Championships. All premier league shows hold FEI team tests for ponies, juniors and young riders. Some of these shows will be part of the selection process and nominated shows will be compulsory for European team hopefuls.

Stage 3

Send your progress charts, which log your competition results, on a regular basis to the relevant chief selector

This secures invitations to BYRDS National and Squad training

"Selection will be based primarily on results, with the following points to be taken into consideration:
a) The Premier League F.E.I. tests are the most important tests. National competitions will also be taken into consideration at the following levels:

Young Riders - Prix St Georges and above (this includes the F.E.I. Young Rider Team & Individual tests).
Junior Riders - Advanced Medium and above (this includes the F.E.I. Junior Team & Individual tests).
Pony Riders - Medium and above (this includes F.E.I. Pony Preliminary, Team & Individual tests).

Result sheets and progress forms should be forwarded regularly to your Chief Selector.

b) The rate of improvement as well as the actual results.

c) Past form at major events, the ability of the horse/pony and rider to stand up to pressure, fitness of the horse/pony and rider, whether the horse/pony is a good traveller and the overall experience of riding in a team.

d) The availability of the horse/pony for the full season i.e. security of any lease/loan agreement."

British Dressage Selection Policy 2007/8

The programme will be especially focused on preparing riders for higher level training, and is part of Sarah's commitment to directly return the investment made in her by British Dressage when she was endorsed through the British Dressage Young Trainers' Scheme (read details of Sarah's selection).

British Dressage recognizes that: "Being on the British Young Rider Dressage Scheme (BYRDS) national training programme is a good route to being selected for a squad, but it is not a pre-requisite." Sarah is able to provide training to take combinations with the relevant abilities to National selection level. This training is both comprehensive in its own right, but can also be used to add depth and complement all and any other regional training that is being undertaken. The British Dressage Under 21 Squads page has full details as well as the British Dressage Selection Policy 2007.

Pricing will be deliberately competitive and affordable to all.
